Most tj owners seem to have this same problem ,under hood temp seems way too high, I know this is why my tps keeps going bad ,the dealer told me heat and moisture are #1 reasons they die early. I would like to hear some creative ideas for venting the heat out from under the hood ,I did hear that removing the inner rubber mud flaps that fill the gap between the fender tub and frame will drop the temp so I took them out and it does seem like its cooler than it was under similar conditions the bad thing is with my doors off it blows the hot air right to me ,gen right has a setup that looks cool and functional but there has got to be a vent or louver being used for some other purpose that would look and function well, got an idea let me hear about it .... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

There are a number of louver/venting options.

Many Cherokee owners also have underhood temperature issues.

Check with Tat at http://www.offroadtrailtools.com

He has some louvers....

You used a great word..."SEEMS".. The temp under there isn't any higher than it is in ANY other vehicle on the road. Your radiator should be getting coolant at or near 210* and blowing that hot air back onto the engine...just like all other vehicles do! Then you also have the exhaust manifold which is prolly near 500* that is adding to the heat just like all other engines do.
There isn't anything specially hotter under a Jeeps hood than all the other vehicles on the road..
Adding some louvers or a lectric fan or WHATEVER won't do much of anything for the underhood temps.
If you want to modify your hood and make it look sporty to yourself...go ahead! But don't think for one moment them louvers will do one damn thing to the underhood temps.

It's usually water that ruins them. Make sure you are using the latest superceded part (With extra sealing) and try not to wash the engine in the area of the TPS sensor.

One other oddball problem that sometimes happens on TJ's that sets a TPS (and/or MAP code) is that the clockspring shorts the 5V sensor power feed wire to ground. The 5V feeds the Speed Control switch that may or may not be in the factory steering wheel. If you unplug the wide clockspring connector (Not the yellow one) and the code goes away, you probably need a new clockspring.

My home made hood vents, and I wheel in extreme heat. I cut those in back when I still had fenders.
