I have not tear the bottom of the engine out, but I would like some heads up what to expect. If the engine spun a rod, what kind of damage would I expect on the bottom end? What caused the rod to spun? Just curious. This is on a '87 Raider. Thanks.

Need a Spot
just did this myself last weekend, when you get the pan off, jiggle the rods where they meet the crank, see if there is slop in any of those connections i heard these motors were notourious for sticking rings so if a ring was draging that could, over time, trash your rod bearings look for aluminum shavings and flakes in the oil pan you will probably find some (in my case i had a freakin pile on the pick up with a 4 mm bolt layin on it) you should also check to see if rods are bent and if you havent done a compression check do one to see what your rings are like there shouldnt be any slop in the main bearings either.

Where da mud at?

Most times a bad rod is from oil starvation.

I took the top off already. So can't do compression test. #3 cylinder is busted.

hmm... When I drained the oil, it seemed like there is still couple quarts in there plus some coolant. The coolant is probably from the head (the rod busted the head too).

If the oil pump drive fails you still get oil starvation and a spun bearing.

Body Damage is Cool
Coolant in the bottom of engine will ruin ALL the bearings- All will need replaced/checked- Coolant = Corrosion.
