Well my earlier thread was correct about the blown head gasket, the water jacket corroded too close to the number two cylinder and steam cleaned that piston real nice. But I got lucky and nothing was damaged or cracked.
So I am getting my head back from the shop today, and was wondering if there are some inside tips beyond the Haynes manual on reinstalling the head?
All is cleaned and spotless, ready to go.

Make sure you get all of the oil/antifreeze and gunk out of the bottom of the head bolt holes in the block. If the bolts bottom out in that stuff, it can throw your torque readings off.

What they said, at least make SURE there is no excess fluids in those holes before installing bolts. Torque to specs, in proper order. You got the head off, I'm sure you'll be fine getting her back on.

I talked the machinist and the tech at the Toyota dealer, and they both said the head bolt should be fine to reuse as long as there was no corrosion or damage.
I guess this is a big debating point on the internet, bolt stretch and all.
So no gasket sealer, or anything special for the head gasket?

Without trying to stir that debate back up , I'll just say I've reused head bolts a few times and never had any issues. Only apply sealant to the front corners. Like this: ![[Linked Image]](http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/jcharrist/headsealant.jpg)

What about the intake manifold gasket, does that one require sealant?

make sure when setting the head on you don't drop it onto the gasket.
to clean the threads, not every one has a tap that long!! so I use a brass brush for cleaning a 20 ga shot gun, or what ever you have that fits well. then brake cleaner and compressed air using a tube that will extend the blower to the bottom of the hole, (cover with a paper towel so you don't get a shot of dirty brake cleaner in the face. LIGHTLY oil the bolt hole and threads of the bolt. tighten, drive 200 miles or so and re check bolts and lifters.
