Hello All!

Been lurking for about a month here... nice community! Found it by chance researching for Montero articles.

Brief overview. Live in PR, so I have both offroading available for beach or mountain camping.

I have a 1998 Montero with 114k miles, and was wondering if there was someone out there with a suspension lift kit that could send (or post) pics, as well as info where you got it. ´'d love to make this my "expedition" truck, since I already have 2 Jeeps, but they do not have the space or comforts of the MOntero.

My Jeeps are:

- CJ3B, 1965, Bone-stock Hurricane engine, 3 speed tranny with a Warn Overdrive, Koenig PTO winch
- M38, 1950, Bone-stock military Jeep (currently in my 3rd year restoring it frame-up, all alone... man, do I get bored sometimes working on it alone...)

Anyway, good to see Monteros being used off-road. Same as in the US, there's not that many followers using them for off-road.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jorge

Most just go with a body lift, torsion bar crank and 33 size tires. I've only seen one IFS lift kit and it was from Thailand. I forget who had the info, either Carlos or Dat.

What size tires you want to run ?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Don't know about size just yet... I was thinking about 33" too, but was not set for sure, since it all depended if there's a suspension lift kit available.

Depending on what the lift's hight rise was, then the tire size would be chosen.

But again, 33" sounds about right.

NOw that you bring the body lift kit issue, is there any specific kit that you would recommend? Any wiring, tubing, steering or drivetrain issues with the added space between frame and body?

Again, Thanks for your time!

Jorge

Welcome to the forum. If you do a search for body lift you should find all the information you need. I didn't post up about my body lift when I did it because it was nothing new. Kits are available from Roger Brown or you can make your own like I did

Welcome to the wire. You'll def find most of your questions here. Of course we do encourage searching first, but can be tricky to use it the first few times. As mentioned below, Reuben made his own blocks, or you can order them from Roger Brown. I have an album with pics and steps of the body lift I did. When the time comes, we'll give you more detail.

Alot of guys with the Gen II's are starting to go with 35" tires. But I wouldnt recommend this unless you plan on getting new gears sometime in the next year or so, could be alot of work for a tranny with only a 4.22 ratio. Those gears can be found in Monteros at junk yards. There are certain years and models that you can get them out of or you can buy it from the dealer and pay close to $800.

As for suspension lifts, I have a JAOS Battlez lift, not sure if they still make it, probably do, but I got mine 9 yrs ago. There are other companies out there that make a coil for the rear, but some sag over a few years so search that or ask around cause I dont know much more about the other coils out there on the market. The front suspension, all you have to do is crank the torsion bar and trim your bump stops. Best of luck
