A buddy and myself are planning to ride our bikes out to Mt. Rushmore to catch the fireworks on the third. I plan to swing up through MN on and then straight out to Rushmore. The way out might be a bit of a blitzkrieg, but after the third we plan to take a bit more time and stop at whatever catches our interest. The return trip will take us through the Badlands Nat'l Park as well as the Corn Palace and then on to Sioux City, IA to visit a friend.
I have a few museums noted as well as the Norbeck Scenic Byway.
Does anyone have any suggestions for stops? Museums, great places to eat, etc?

If you leave Rushmore by way of Pine Ridge Rez, take in Scotts Bluff and Signature Rock along the Oregon Trail down in Nebraska. You might not be headed that far south tho.
Take a look at Good Sam's website to lay out your overnighters if not using a hotel.
Also, if you have AAA, you can get with your local office and have them work up a trip tic package for you; will have all kinds of stuff.

That spot is worth going to see and won't take but a few minutes. On a clear day you'll quickly understand exactly how folks navigated prairie schooners across the plain without getting lost. Frank

Tempting, but quite a bit further south than we have time for. I have a two week furlough at work, but the guy that's coming with will be burning vacation.
I'll add the Oregon Trail to the Lincoln Highway and Route 66 as routes I want to explore someday.

You need one of these for the next one. I almost bought one earlier this year. I put it off because I will be unpaid for several weeks of furlough at work over the course of the summer. That's how I had the time off to make this trip happen.
