The GF's Cherokee has shown no signs of needing a new battery, but this morning it got her to work, then wouldn't crank. Lights, windows, etc. still worked. She was right down the block from a CarQuest, so walked over there and they checked the battery, said it was only putting out 9v, and wanted to sell her a new one for $100. I told her to tell them to F off. WallMart has two options: A 3 year guaranteed replacement battery for $75, or a 1 year guaranteed replacement battery for $50. The $75 battery has "a lot more cranking amps than the 1 year" free replacement battery. I don't know how much more amps b/c the GF calls my cell phone if she gets a busy signal on the land line (the logic of that can only be a female thing). Any thoughts as to which I should go get this afternoon? BJ I've heard you say to get the cheapest WallMart battery you can get....Still your recommendation?

For a vast majority of the battery applications, economics is the deciding factor.

Go for the free replacement battery...

Got the $75 one with higher amps...her's is set up for the rear winch too - It would prolly be my if her truck couldn't use it to haul me back out!

Sorry for the delay Wilmington. Nope! I never said to get the cheapest one. I always go for Walmarts highest price battery. Put one in daughters car 4 years ago.. It went south last month.. took the car on my trailer to the walmart parking lot. Raised the hood and son-in-law and I took the battery out.. took the battery inside and got a new one for 26 bucks exchange. Son-in-law placed the battery on the radiator top of the car up in the trailer..while climbing up to install it it slipped off of the vehicle and fell to the pavemant...cracking and ruining the battery!!! Walmart employee hollored to wait a minute.. In a couple of minutes out he came with another new battery, he carried the broken one off and said to have a nice day..
Good story huh?
I use a colored paint pen and in large letters I paint the install date on every battery I purchase.
You did good, that is zackly what I would have purchased.

Thanks for the paint pen idea. That should be a no-brainer, but I've never thought to do it!
