Getting the Wheeling Fever
I went to the Toyota stealership for an oil filter for my Tacoma. They had a special buy 3 filters for $3.99 ea. I bought 3 and went home to change my oil. When I took my oil filter off I noticed it said Denso made in Japan. When I opened up the new filter it said Denso Made in Malaysia and was made differently than the Japan filter. Has anyone noticed this or did I get the cheap bargin filter.

The ones you buy from your local dealer will most likely be made in Malaysia, while the one that came from the factory will be from Japan. The Malaysian ones are built to factory spec. Carson Toyota sells the ones made in Japan, but they are very pricey.

Cut if you still have your old filter, cut it open. It seems to me the media should be a ballon shaped media for the filter material; most other filters are concentric in their shape.

The reason I suggest this is that I remember reading an article several years ago about Toyota changing their filter design.

If you're up for cutting one of the Malaysia filters too, post a couple pictures, if able.

Got me curious now!!

Found the link. Carson Toyota sells the filter for about $14 each.
