My system seems to be having a problem with the 4x4Wire site certificate. It suddenly tells me that 4x4Wire is not a trusted site, that it does not have a valid site certificate.
This has been happening randomly for the last several days. It concerns me in that I go to great efforts to keep my system clean.
Two weeks ago I upgraded my browser to Firefox 3.5.1, and it has been working well. I'm not convinced that the upgrade has any bearing on the certificate problem.
Any explanations, help, or suggestions would be appreciated.

Is this the error you have received?
67.192.123.199:443 uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed. The certificate is only valid for localhost.localdomain
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
If so, I have no solution at this time. I have placed a call to our hosting service with this error.
I do not believe it is Firefox related. However, you might go into the cert section of FF and delete any cert referencing 4x4wire.

Yes, that's the one. It's still causing a problem, slowing things noticeably, and making me nervous. I don't like ignoring things like this.
I found a certificate which I'm pretty sure is the problem. It reads: localhost.localdomain, lifetime: temporary, expires: 3/27/2010. Firefox gives me the option to delete it.
Is that what you're suggesting I delete? What will happen if I do that? Will my system just request a new certificate? What is the downside? What damage can I do?
Thanks for your help. I'm always appreciative.

Yes, delete it. I have been through a number of forums researching the problem. It comes down to either your client is out of time sync with the server or there is an invalid cert.
I resorted to deleting that specific cert. That appears to have corrected my error.
4x4Wire does not use "secure sockets layer" which is noted by the :443 port identifier in the error message.
If a cert is required, you will be prompted to accept the new cert.
I have no idea how it appeared.

I have no idea how it appeared. And it disappeared in the same way. When I logged on this morning it was there, and I had to again tell my computer to ignore it. I did nothing to remove it. When I came back to the site later, and logged on again, the certificate was gone, and log on was as normal. This evening I logged on using the spare computer, and found the certificate here too. I ignored it, read the site, and logged off. Just a little later I logged back on, and the certificate was gone. I was able to log on normally. This may be one of life's little mysteries. Thanks for your help.

Well, it is also bugging me.... Do me a favor, please. Next time you see the error, I need to know day and time AND, what is displayed in the browser window where you enter the URL. And, which page are you seeing the error? Specifically, I am looking for some link as to why the error will show when trying to access the portal ( www.4x4wire.com) and not other sections of the site. And, I have narrowed the error to an attempt to login on the portal and it shifting to an ssl session. Don't know why and can't find anything in the configuration. However, it is a potential bug in the software. It is frustrating... Thanks for letting me know...

And I thought this problem was cured.
It happened this morning, 7/24/2009, at 0636 California time. I was moving from one forum (Oilburners.net) to 4x4Wire, navigating by way of my bookmarks. The major part of the screen still showed the Oilburners forum, though the top showed, "Welcolme to 4x4Wire..." and the addressbar showed, "http://www.4x4wire.com". At that point, with the major parts of the screen still displaying Oilburners forum, I got a splash screen, "SECURE CONNECTION FAILED:" with the text you show above.
I had to over-ride this four times before I was settled on the site. At that point I had a totally different than normal screen-- a 4x4wire logo, and text with a white background. The screen arrangement was completely different, though, I think, all the text and choices were there.
I chose to go to the Isuzu forum, received one more warning as before, over-rode that, and then received a fullscreen Firefox warning, "This Connection is Untrusted. ..." It gave me two choices, to view the Technical Details, or to continue with "I understand the Risks". I chose the later, did a one-time over-ride/permission, and continued with a normal auto-login.
My system, if it has any bearing: an old and slow Win2K sp4 running at 400, 512 Mb RAM, using Firefox 3.5.1.
I really hope this helps, and you're able to solve this problem. As you say, it's frustrating.
Thanks.
EDIT: BTW, the temporary certificate is back. It had disappeared, but is now back. The only thing I have done since I last posted about this has been to run CCleaner, as I occasionally do to clean up the hard drives.

Now, at 0826, the certificate is gone. I did absolutely nothing to make it go away. It simply isn't here. The site came up as normal, as it is supposed to.
I followed the same procedure, Oilburners.net to 4x4wire.com, and all worked as it is supposed to.
Frustrating.

It did it again this morning--same process to boot, same warning messages. It happened on my initial visit to 4x4wire after boot-up, time 0837.
It seems to clear the problem when I go for a onetime exception, and remain clear as long as the system is running. I can take Firefox to another site, not have 4x4wire even minimized, and have no problem returning. But, if I shut the system down and reboot, the temporary certificate returns and I must jump through the hoops again. This gets tedious.

I had the exact same thing happen this morning. I kept clicking cancel then got 4x4wire text but it had a white background. Once I clicked on trail talk forums, it when back to "normal". I have never had this happen but my wife downloaded Foxfire onto the laptop this morning.
