Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have an oil leak in my 3.0 and I think its coming from the front of the engine around the crankshaft pully area. From what I can tell in the manual, is that where the oil pump is as well? Could it be leaking from there? How difficult is it to take that apart? (I did replace the water pump 2 yrs ago).

OK, I did some more looking and some more reading, and I think it may be the front crankshaft oil seal, or the pump itself. I will have to pull the timing cover etc to see for sure, but does anyone know how tough it is to replace that seal, and do I need any special tools?

if you dont have Toyota's ..ahem... "Special Service Tool" you can tactfully punch a hole in the front of the seal (the metal part) with a scrtch-awl/icepick. Then carefully run a drywall screw into the hole and turn it far enuf to lock in. Then just grab the head of the screw with pliers and tug it out. Also oil pump drive cover O-rings can cause the leak. Most common is the seal.
