I'd say about a year ago I posted about loseing 2nd gear in my 86 MMM 4WD. Jumped in one morning and it would not shift into 2nd gear, would not grind, would not shift engine on or off, clutch in or out. Checked shifter, it was fine. As this is my company truck I did not have time to have it sit while I pulled it apart to see what was wrong. I just did not shift into 2nd gear. I told myself when the clutch needs replaced I would then look into it.
So a couple weeks ago me and the wife where driving my truck and for some reason I did a first to second gear shift and it shifted just fine. We just kind of looked at each other. Then I stoped the truck, put it in first and shifted into second gear again. Shifted smooooth. Then she asked the question..."when was the last time you tried to shift into second gear? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />"...me "uuuu about a year ago <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> "...Wife "so how long has second gear worked again? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />"...me "I dont know <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />" Yea, she was haveing her fun with it.
So anyway, havent had a shft problem in two weeks of daily driving. Do not have the slightest idea of what happend. Soon to put a new clutch in. Would this be a good time to replace the gear oil in the trans? And what would be a good fluid to use.
