Got a new Starter, New Fuel Pump, New Fuel Filter, New Batt.,
New O2 Sensor (Bank 1), New Idle Control Sensor, -----All this about a month or so ago.

When I turn the Key it cranks for like almost 10 seconds and of course I stop. Then I turn the key again and it will start.
(Always without fail) redundant cycle.

Keep in mind that it is doing this when in Texas the temp is over 100 f...........And It is not bad gas either.

I have the return code of p1071 (to lean)! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

Any ideas on what it could be??????????

Thanks.

Mikey

BTW: I will post PICS of the Exhaust Headers that I have (if there are leaks there) will that be enough to affect the O2 sensor to the point of causing this?????

Do you possibly mean P0171?

I don't think the O2 sensors have any part of the starting program. As I recall they don't really have any input until both they and the engine are at regular operating temperature. The leak in your exhaust could be causing the code, but I doubt it is causing the hard starting. I've got some big ol' cracks in my exhaust manifold and have never seen that code, although my CEL is on (always). If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge connect it inline if possible and see if you have good pressure cranking the first time around.
Good luck!

So how or what did u do about ur code???????

There is a fellow on the other thread trying to get rid of that.......with all the smart people here in the forum....I thought that it would have been isolated to a particular instance of cause?

Well at least we all are not giving up! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Will check my fuel pressure like on Monday!

Thanks again ya'll

i posted this same problem awhile back except i dont have a cel on...i have since changed my fuel filter and still have the same problem but only when its hot and has sat long enough for the engine to cool back off....if its cold outside it starts right up or if the engine has only been off for a lil while and not cooled down it starts right up...let us know what you find cause im lost and have just been dealing with it....oh yeah and my wifes villager does the same thing except hers is worse, it takes a couple of times of cranking if its cold out but quite a few if its hot, dunno what it could be but my wife would really appreciate me finding out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I still have my code, but not the same one as you. Mine's a p0420 due to the primary cat (alytic convertor)being gutted as it fell apart a while ago. I haven't found until this morning a fix I would call both proper and cheap. More info on this at:

Argh, got to go to work.

this is a dumb ? but are you giving it any gas when you are trying to start it ? if you are you might be flooding it just a little, try this just turn the ket on but not all the way just to energize the system for about 2 seconds then turn the key and see if it will start with out giving any gas, then you can give a little gas. just a thought.

Hydra -

P0171 is often caused by a vacuum leak which can make it hard to start. I would look for a vacuum leak first!!!!

You could also check the vacuum at idle, with a vacuum gauge hooked up to that little hose barb on the intake side that has a cap on it normally, what a handy spot!

If you can test it, let us know what your vacuum is at idle... Mine is about 22 (forgot what the units are).
