Dana 50 is different from a Dana 60 in a few different ways. I wouldn't say it's a "bad" axle...just that it's not a Dana 60. I looked around on the Dana-Spicer website, and they have a "library" of PDFs you can look through. My suggestion is that you open some of them up for the Dana 50 and 60 to see if that axle is the one you want. The aftermarket parts houses tend to get things mixed up sometimes, so I'd go straight to the manufacturer for my info if I could...and it seems you can!

That said, don't pay the guy a Dana 60 price for a Dana 50. They damn sure aren't worth the same amount of money. I hope this helps...

EDIT: I see you changed your location after I typed my comment about the tire coverage...I have no idea what your laws are in VA.

BTW Oyaji I saw the "D50" talking about the axles and I was wondering what a Dodge D50 had anything to do w/ the axles and SAS

Dana 50 and Dana 60 housings are the same size. The parts inside of a Dana 50 are smaller, comparable to a D44. I wouldn't recommend a Dana 50 unless you want that size. It is harder to get aftermarket parts for the Dana 50 but you can still get lockers, gears, chromos and all sorts of stuff. I recommend either sticking with a 44 or 60 though. A 44 has the strenghth of a 50 but better clearance. The 50 and 60 have the same clearance but the 60 is much stronger.

I have to give my best advice:
www.pirate4x4.com
You will find MORE than enough information right on their website. BOM #'s & 2-link, 3-link, 4-link & probably hydraulically controlled 7 links by now.

Search (theirs works better) & read all of the tech articles there, then when your mind is melted into goo, ask about what you cannot find.

I know i emailed Bill vista from priate 4x4 on the pdf file for the coil over bible 1&2 (which i still havent read it all yet) i dont think my head has fully recovered enough for all this axle thinking, thats one big reason for envolving the wonderful minds here on the 4x4wire, you guys have never let me down thank you alot................

Heres another idea any thoughts about the TTB axles, that are on the broncos? anyone one think that would be a worth wild shot? i know i can pick up an old 302 or 351 bronco pretty cheap then i'll have my tranny engine and axles all in one shot?

Thanks Fellas

I wouldnt think TTB would be much of an upgrade over the stock IFS. Unless you wanted to make a prerunner type truck. And what is the rear axle in a Bronco 9" or 8.8"? either way it would pretty much be a side grade as far as strength goes, although there would be alot more aftermarket parts.

I've wanted to turn my 95 into a 2wd Prerunner, I just don't have the Fabrication skills to do so lol.

TTB is one of the stupidest things Ford has invented IMO.

unless you plan on desert racing it, but why would you use a montero?

It will be just as hard as a solid axle swap anyways.

newer broncos i think have the 8.8, the older ones have a 9"

welp!
I guess that answers the TTb question, I'll just throw out that idea completely.........Done!
So i guess i just need to find me some solid strong axles and the hunt continues honestly i could handle dana 44 upfront i dont foresee myself really getting into it that deep but then again i am a man and everything has a limit for a two reasons, to push it or break it!

So long as you stick to 37"s or smaller and use the stupid pedal judiciously you should be fine with a D44. Don't get me wrong, they can broken. But, they're tough enough for pretty rigorous duty. Good luck!
