Getting the Wheeling Fever
Howdy.

I'm in the market for a stock 1989-1991 Montero.

V6, auto, straight, in good running & looking condition, factory paint.

Things I dont want, power locks, power windows, large tires, brush guards.

I'd be more than happy to pay KBB value $2000 ?.

I live in Portland Oregon. I'd be willing to drive about 75 ? miles for the right machine. I do search Craigs List, but I thought that this forum might have some folks who have an extra machine which they want to sell to a Montero fan.

Let me know what you have VIA PM. I'll send you my email and then you can send along some images and we'll talk. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

[If this is in the wrong area, I apologize. I could not find a WANTED / FOR SALE area for Monteros, Move this post if you must]

WANTED: 1989-1991 Isuzu Trooper or Mitsubishi Montero, V6, Manual 5-speed, 4 door, Stock, Good looking in and out, runner/driver good. PM w/ info please.

Your best bet to shop for one is at www.autotrader.com and possibly Craigslist. Good luck!

I hate to sound rude, but if 75 miles is as far as you're willing to go and $2000 is what you're willing to spend, you don't want one bad enough.

Well, 2k is more than high enough. Mine was only $1500 and that was a couple of years back when SUV's weren't a scourge at the gas pump as they are today.

But the 75mi radius may be your limiting factor... not sure how inundated your region is with Gen I's though.

I guess it's pride of ownership. I wouldn't take any amount for mine. But, if Eugene and Seattle are too far away....

Sorry if this seems obtuse, but the years overlap. Are you wanting a 2-door or a 4-door?

What if a nice, inexpensive one becomes available in the rust-free southwest? The AZ Crew seems to have a knack for finding gems that could be delivered, as it were, for less than 2K, including gas and return airfare...

Alright, you folks are sharp. Let me adress some of the things that you have written me about.

- 75 miles is not quite far enough, your right. Travel to Seattle, Yakima, Eugene, Bend, Oregon Coast are comfortable distances for me. So lets call the new shoping zone a 3 hours drive radius.

- Am I willing to buy from Arizona or other areas outside of my local drive zone? I usually dont like the idea of not seeing something with my own eyes, or figuring out payments and deliveries. However if the seller was able to send plenty of photos I might entertain the idea and fly down myself to drive the unit back.

- $2000 is a good target amount I think. Were talking about buying a bone stock machine here. If things have been improoved on, then the price would have to be higher. KBB ranges between $1650 & $2100 depending on options, milage and year. So $2000 is the not my limit but the target of what I'm after.

- The body style that I'm after is the LWB 4 door unit.

Thanks for all the Info and Input.

The other option is to find one with a bad motor. If you can pull wrenches a rebuild / repair is not to much more expensive than a buying a good running vehicle.

To me its worth considering since you get a new motor. Best case is you get exactly what you want. Worst case is you pay for a good runner and the motor turns out to be on its last legs.

Hope that does not add to the confusion...

Kevin
