Greeting all,

In my search for replacement heads on the Monti I came across these and would like your thoughts on them, Good cost? Good to get the "whole magilla" tested and ready? Orrrrr. Head to the JY where Justice reports heads-o-plenty to be found? The best price I have found locally for milling heads is $35 per. They also want $35 to pressure test one.

So. Fire away folks!

Thanks

Pastor M

My only question is did they use the correct valve guides, with the snap ring to prevent valve guide sinking in the head, which is the cause of most leaking valve guide problems.

Otherwise, I'd snatch them up.

Good on you for sticking with it. I was afraid you were giving up. Hang in there and we'll get you home...

My question would be... according to their ad, guides and seats have been replaced as needed .

Who/what determines what the as needed basis is?

Or maybe I'm just being overly picky about the wording...

You got to be carefull you don't end up with another head only good as a peper weight.

As a sugestion I recomend this people: Clearwater Cylinder Heads

I bought a new 2.6 casting and I am so pleased. It was a direct replacement -thanks again to Eddy for his invaluable help-that included everything.

I am 100% satisfied and ready for another 400k miles.

Normally seats are not replaced unless they are sunk down too far or the head needs welding in the combustion chamber.

Again my personal preferance is to find a set of used heads at a yard and get them rebuilt. That insures (hopefully)you started with a high quality set of cores.

Regardless, that is a decent price and the outfit looks OK. It never hurts to ask a few questions of their sales staff about how far they will go when machining the deck and if it's out of spec do they still rebuild the head? Some companies will mill the heads out of spec but include a block shim ( thats not my prefered fix, it works but.....)?

Heads Only

IMHO it pays to do a talk to the manufacture ask a few questions. Worse case you pay a few dollars per head more. Best case is these are good and you dont need to worry.

Good Luck,

Kevin

I don't like it either. The combustion chamber has a squish area to avoid detonation and heat transfer to the cylinder walls early, and a shim usually loses that squish...

Thanks gents. I will ask those questions! I did find a place that will sell me a new cast head for $210, but then I am taking all my valve items from the old head and trying to get them to set right in the new one kinda worries me (but then again thia IS my first time at this so EVERYTHING kinda worries me) Oh alsothe new cast one has the same warrantee as the one at CHI I posted.

Cheers

Pastor M
