Getting the Wheeling Fever
on my 1990 isuzu trooper I have been having problems with the carrier bearing going out. I have the 3 inch lift installed on it. It vibrated a little bit on take offs, but wasn't bad. A while after I installed the lift I bought the shims from independent4x that is suppose to correct the pinion angle. it basically made the driveshaft straight, but after i installed them my carrier bearing bushing finally went out.
So I installed a new aftermarket carrier bearing, but it went out shortly after install, so I had a warranty and put another one in. The aftermarket one is a totally different design then the old one. So i guess what I am asking is should I take out the shims, since they only seem to cause problems or try to rebuild my old carrier bearing with a new rubber bushing?
thanks kyle

I suspect that the carrier bearing failure was unrelated to the shim installation. You are talking about a 19-20 year old bearing that probably died of old age. I suspect that there are few if any carrier bearings left out there that have not been replaced.

You might consider eliminating the carrier bearing and going to a one piece drive shaft. A lot of the trooper/rodeo guys do that after doing a lift. You have to hack up the cross member to room for the one piece.

Carrier bearings don't last too long with a lift. You should go to a one piece.
I think I have one piece left over from an old project. PM me if you want to buy it.

1987 trooper LS.'94 3.2, SAS,35's , lots of dents and rust. Now, improved, with more dents.
1995 trooper LS. Wife won't let me improve this one.
1996 trooper. I'll need something to modify when the '87 finally rusts away.

If you reuse parts, could be as cheap as $150. a whole shaft with new parts will be more like $300. all depends on if you know a good local driveline shop.
