shifter extension to make up for body lift ??? #963196 09/13/09 09:07 PM

I lifted my body 2 inches but now the 4wd shifter is too low for the boot to fit snuggly around the lower fat part of the shaft. I've looked around for something aftermarket for this but could find nothing. I know a machinist, but dont want to fork out $ for something "custom" that I could get cheaper somewhere else. I know there probably aren't many fans of the body lift, but I had no choice on this one... you all probably won't be my friends anymore , but this is what I've been up to :

At the risk of stating the obvious, Roger you are a genius. The short throw kit is more the solution I was looking for, My fingers are only 2 inches from touching my knees when I'm standing straight up so the actual length is not the problem. The problem is exactly as you stated in the short throw write up.

I run a 3" body lift, and so i could use the stock boots, i bought a URD Short shifter kit, and 4crawler t-case short shifter kit. they both raise the shift points up 1 inch, and shorten the throw. i use the stock boots. LCEngineering also makes a complete bolt in short shifter but it's more money and doesnt have the dampening factor the stock shift lever has. i had to slightly modify the urd one, but it may bolt in depending on the year (works fine on some, slight modification on others).

i will keep that in mind, thanks guys, until i get a better job, (40 hr a week would be great ) i guess i will just flip the boot and deal with the goofy look. I don't have to worry about passengers at the moment so that won't be a big deal.

Another option would be to fab in a 2" drivetrain lift, that would put it back in place ANd get things away from the rocks

That is an eventual possibility. But maybe not, I might need the room if I put in a bigger engine and a bigger trans...

Actually I believe if you put in the bigger engine, you'll need to lift it anyway to get the clearance on the bottom end.
