I've had a slipping clutch in my Mighty Max V6 3.0L for the past 5 months, and I've put on about 4000 miles. The strange thing is, it is easy enough to drive while preventing it from slipping. As long as I am gentle, no slippage. I haven't been able to afford the repair, and I'm concerned that driving the truck as is may damage something else. The mechanic at the transmission shop said it will not damage any thing else, but I need reassurance from the real experts!

Clutches are optional is you can shift correctly.
At some point it will leave you stranded when It completely goes and won't go into gear. Just keep your tow card handy. You should get it fixed, there is always a possibility it will fall apart and sling bits and pieces everywhere.

Well expect to resurface the flywheel, all that extra heat can cause hard spots that make the engagement feel jerky if y ou just throw it back together. Also warpage that only allows good disc clamping in the high spots. That extra heat is also hard on the rear main seal. And you should definatly replace the pressure plate, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing. Trans input seal is only a few bucks and you'll be right there anyhow.
