What should I do with my 95SR other than the crusher? #964561 09/23/09 04:53 AM

I've got a 95SR that's no longer roadworthy. It has intermittent electrical issues with the transmission, needs brake work, and the kicker- a bad seal on the rear axle due to accident damage. It has a good engine and does drive, but I can't use it as a daily driver anymore due to the brakes and fear of the transmission issue coming back far from home. I've call the local scrapyards and they want to give me $100 for it. I'd hate to send a mostly-good Montero to the scrapyard, but I don't know what else choice I have. I can't sell it to someone to as a drivable vehicle in good conscience. I don't have the time to resources to fix it myself because I'm a senior engineering student. I've considered parting it out, but I live on campus and security has already been on my case once about having junk vehicles on campus. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> Ideas? Anybody in east texas want to pick up a blemished 95SR for cheap?

I'll start a fundraiser to gather up the $100 so you won't have to send it to the crusher.

Damn I wish you were near me. I'd love to put a 3.5 DOHC into the 95...

thats not no longer road-worthy. that needs some minor repairs. theres no reason to send a good truck that has a couple minor issues (expected in a 15 year old vehicle) to the crusher.

if i had the time id give you 250 for it and come pick it up.

Thanks for your replies guys. I'm not planning on sending it to the crusher, the $100 offered to me is basically an insult and I'm not planning on taking it. I feel like I'm in a 'no man's zone' between the used car market and the scrap metal market. Too bad I can't really part it out. If anyone is interested in picking it up for a reasonably cheap price ($1000), or has any other ideas on how to liquidate it, LMK.

$1000 is too much.

Mmmk- what do you think is fair? I just posted on CL, here's the ad:

I was about to post it on the forums here too, but I guess I'll wait.

Got the wrong impression from the original post. About 10 times more than I am able/willing to spend on a second rig. I really just want the rear locked axle anyway, but that seems damaged. Good luck with the sale!

Honestly, probably $400-$600. But that's just my suggestion, FWIW.
