And I came across these. http://www.sp.koito.co.jp/hid_frame.html(click on the pic for the RV SDB in the lower left corner). I know it's a Japan site (and I sure can't read it) but a picture is worth a thousand words. All I can say is, the SDB-163D set would be awesome on the front of my Runner. Nice light pattern for those deep dark off-road excursions. And check out the PIC for the LC front bumper w/ lights mounted. Looks sharp don't ya think?? Would probably look just as good on the 4Runner. Any thoughts on how to get a set of these? Wishful thinking? Ricochet [ September 08, 2002, 02:22 PM: Message edited by: Ricochet ]

Use this to translate from Japanese to English. Babelfish Now, use this for currency conversions. Currency conversion Next, whip out your VISA and hope they ship internationally...no sweat! Uh, those are HID's...I hope the limit on your card is high. If you've already got ballasts, etc you may be able to just get the HB4 bulbs. -Leafy

I figured they would be pricey for being an import item. But since Kioto is the lamp provider for the factory lighting assemblies for the 4Runner, it just wonder why there is no importer (that I can find) for the Kioto products. Maybe there is and I just haven't tripped over them yet. I'm still gonna keep looking.
You never know ...
Btw .. Thanks Leaf for pointing me to the translator. Never thought to look there for it.

The old Dick Cepek made a light very similar to that.
Warn does as well. Not exactly the same but simillar.
The question I have for you is have you ever been on a night run? I hate them personally. Just wondering. That's why I will always just have the headlights.

Matter of fact I was just over at the Warn site looking at what they had.
And oh yeah, I have defintely been on a night run. Pretty scary stuff without a lot of light. I have some in-laws down in Birmingham / Leeds Alabama and they took me to some of the hundreds of acres of logging trails with ravines the likes I have never seen before, nor trail rode upon. I have a night PIC of that run and if I can find it I will post. It was in my '87 Toy mini 4x4 w/ 22R 4-banger. Great truck.
It was a blast, but I would be hesitant to do it again unless I had good light and riders along who knew the area .. Really Well! Nothing like driving off a 50ft cliff in the middle of the night! Not that I've done it but I am sure you would wake up real quick before you hit bottom!

Steve, Speaking of the Warn lights, the SDB-160HB's do look pretty close to the Koito units. Just wondering about the price now. Gotta see who carries these as they are dual-beam and are about the same size specs as the Koito units.
These just may be the ticket. And even if they are pricey, well you get what you pay for. Also I guess I won't have to send them back to Japan (like the Koito's) to get them replaced if there is a problem with them. I'll know more on how much I like em, especially after I get the price. What the heck .. It's only money right ???
Thanks..

Ricochet, If you are looking for exceptional quality lights, I would recommend Hella. I've had Hella 500s before that were light, well built, and never failed. When I wanted more light for my '01 4Runner, I kept eyeballing the Hella 4000s. I had visited a local 4x4 shop that stocked these and the construction, materials, and output was very nice. So after another few months of belaboring, I came across a sale that Susquehanna Motorsports was having - Two 4000s and the Hella harness for $240. So I bought the Eurobeam version and have been very pleased with their performance. On a recent trip to the Northwoods region of Maine, the lights were used extensively during dark rainy drives in the absolute middle of nowhere. You can see pics on my site, and here's a frontal view. I also think those lights you found would be too deep to mount on the bumper - it was dicey getting the 4000s to fit properly: Andreas [ September 09, 2002, 11:34 AM: Message edited by: aowRS ]

you can get hid lights at www.suvlights.comthey have conversion kits for the headlights or you can get the aux hid lights. there is nothing brighter than a set of hid's... there is even a 4 million candlepower hid rechargable flashlight. it cost 500 bucks though... The conversion kits are made by a company called McCULLOCH and the aux hid's are made by some other comapany. The aus lights will set you back about 500-525 w/ballasts. I got the wiring harness (for the headlights, pre made for toyota and very heavy duty) and some generic ($12) 90/120 watt bulbs and it makes a world of difference. Thomas

With respect for the info Thomas provided, I'm not sure how much light and brightness you really want. The 4000s I have are 100 watt and put out a tremendous amount of light. The same lamp is also available in pencil and cornering lamp configurations. I don't think you'll find a better built auxilliary lamp than this. I think Jacksonpt and others would second this.
(If you really want HID lights - then yes, buy from that SUVlights site - the HID version of the Hella 4000 is around $650 per lamp!)
