Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hi there, I don't have the knowledge to figure out what it is going to take to fix my truck, looking to find out if anyone knows a reliable mechanic in the Sac area or someone that knows these trucks, 84 with a 22r. I don't want to take it to just anywhere and drop it off and of course any mechanic you talk to you will tell you their the best.

What is wrong with your truck?

If you are having differential or transfer case issues, then I recommend "River City Differentials" in Rancho Cordova ( 852-7109 ). Sean is the best gear-guy in town. Even the local Toyota dealership sends him work. Not too far from you. He's a great guy. Tell him Rick sent ya.

For other repairs, I recommend "Japanese Imports" downtown (17th and J) 442-9007. I do most repairs myself, but anything that I can't do, I use them. I also take my wife's Lexus there.

Both are very honest and reasonably priced .

Thanks for the info, it won't pass smog, the system won't even let it start the test. It runs really rough and I have tried several times to get the timing and A/F ration to be correct. As far as I know, I have done everything correctly. I am going to try again this weekend but as it is getting colder and I hate riding my motorcycle in the rain, I am getting desperate.

Basic tuneup (plugs, wires, PCV, valve adjust, etc)
Look for a vacuum leak.
Do a compression test.

The engine is new and so are the plugs and wires, I don't have the tools for a compression test and not quite sure how to check for vacuum leaks. I have manual that I have not looked at for a while, guess it is time to pull that back out.

Well, if the engine is new, then the compression in all cylinders should be good, unless you got a bad motor. Maybe the vacuum lines are not hooked up right, easy to make a mistake there.

Compare what you have, to what the manual says. Check for any cracked or split hoses. Don't leave any hoses out. It runs best with everything connected, and should pass smog also.

I am going to take a look at it this weekend and give it one more shot. I am Ok with my mechanic skills and have basic tools which usually causes somethings to take longer which is why I am looking at other resources. I am feeling short on time, lets here for procrastination!

That's my personal mechanic, Jeff.

He has a mobile repair service.
He put my engine together from 2 boxes of parts.

He had his own shop for 25 years and was zoned out of business so he puchased a large van.

He does all of my work, my kids work and a lot of my friends.
