Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
I took my raider out wheeling yesterday and everything was going good until I drove through a creek. Afterwards the engine stalled and took a minute to restart. When it did, smoke(not sure what color) was coming from the tailpipe and smelled of unburnt fuel. The air filter was dry and there were no air restrictions. My thought was water somehow got into the exhaust ahead of the O2 sensor and drowned it or just cooled it so much that it sent a bad signal to the ecu? Help. I don't want to buy the wrong part.

My guess is your distributor doesn't have the rubber seal around it.. The old trick is to take the distributor cap off and spray WD40 all over, right?

It fired up about 2hrs later and ran fine, so I'm assuming any water dried out, but I want to have a spare part for next time so I don't go home early. I drove downstream through a creek and the water never got past the oil pan and the engine bay was dry right after, so I don't think it was the distributor or ignition

instead of keeping spare cap and rotor, just buy the couple dollar distributor gasket. keeps water out nicely. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

My first gen does that same thing everytime I go mudding. I can get it to start up immediately if I remove intake tube and MAS from the the air filter housing. I figure a snorkel is in order.
