So, I bought a new Toyota Sienna in 2002. I knew about the sludge problem the engine had but was given assurances that the PCV had been enlarged and some mods were done to get better combustion of the gases.

I used Mobil 1 and new filters, mostly Toyota, but a Wix thrown in here and there. In July, at 112,000 miles, the engine sludged. Don't tell me that it is unlikely to sludge using synthetic.

Toyota replaced the block and paid the labor. I bought new Toyota timing belt, water pump, etc. So, whole new set up.

My question...why keep using Mobil 1?

Mobil 1? None in my opinion. The only Mobil product that I would use now is the Turbo Diesel Truck oil.

I think the quality of Mobil 1 oil has gone down considerably. They jumped the shark and are selling based on their name, and the availability in bigbox stores.

I am using Mobil 1 5w30 full synth in my Subaru Should I expect this now? What type of synthetic oil should I try in my engine next change?

Try running conventional, and changing it more often.

If you didn't use Mobil 1 you'd have it sludged by 50k

I also use mobile 1 in my 99 Montero with 145,000 miles with leaky valve seals, what would you all recommend for him and I and everyone else?

I won't use conventional oil in my Subaru, it does not appreciate it. warm temps it taps more than the average Boxer engine. I change my oil every 5k and use Mobil 1 oil and a Mobil 1 filter/Pureone filter.

WTH?

It's been some time, but I thought Mobil 1 was about the best thing since sliced bread!?!
