I need a new starter for my rig, it's pretty much on it's last legs and barley starts anymore. I took it apart and the brushes are completely worn out. I'm pretty sure this is the original starter(245k miles).

What should I get, I looked on the napa site and they have several different reman units and one new unit.

I've got a Napa, Autozone, Schucks and Carquest all within walking distance of each other here so who have you guys had the best luck from with starters?

Thanks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
stay away from the "Bosch" Remanufactured starters...I went through 3 in a year, they were all under the 1 year warranty but I had to go through the hassle of changing it every time

we don't have advanceauto out here.
Seems like everyone here offers, "new" for around $170, "premium reman" and "standard reman" all the remans are around 80-$100.

Should I get a new one or will a reman be alright? Also whats the difference between standard and premium reman?

The difference in standard and premium is usually the length of warranty. Typically, no difference in the quality of the remanufacturing process. Get the lifetime reman from a reputable company for the cheapest price. On your truck, it should only take you 15 minutes to change it whenever it goes bad, so save the money. And get a core from a salvage yard for cheap to turn in as your core. Most stores don't check too deep when they give the core charge back to you. So, just get any old starter that's similarly sized to yours and turn it in. Then have your OE one rebuilt as a shelf spare. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I work in the parts industry and the diffrence between the standard & premieum reman untis are the standard only replaces what was worn and the premium has all new internals, for the 15-20 price diffrence I would go with either the new unit or premium rebuilt

well I stopped by napa this afternoon and bought the premium reman(only one in stock), cost me $85 plus 50 core. I've got a bosch reman that came out of my parts rig(was completly toast) so I'll just turn that in for the core charge and keep my original mitsu one.
