So there is a 85 4r posted here needs a trans supposedly. If I were to buy it and put in a new trans any ideas on what it would be worth? I was thinking around 2,500-3,000. I'm looking to get it back on the road and to get some cash in hand for a down payment towards a used Tundra DC since the family is growing and the T isn't cutting it anymore(no rear doors makes it hard getting kids in and out) anyways any input is appreciated. thanks

I hear work down that way is kinda tough; you might not be able to flip that thing very quickly. Nice lookin' rig tho', and being single owner is a plus. If it were a 4 door, I'd be telling you to keep it. Best to line up a tranny first. See if www.spaldings.com in Spokane has any; hopefully his is still available for the core and transfer case at least. I'd buy it, but then I don't have kids either. Make sure the rear window works; just toss a battery in there.

Work is okay in the Dakotas(4.2% unemployment) so I'm not to worried about getting it moved. I emailed the guy a few questions so I have some ideal of what I'm getting into Since it may not run after sitting and the fuel system maybe varnished up. I have to call the two local junk yards and see if they have anything in the w56 variety to put in it. I'm just waiting to see what the owner says.

Also check www.car-part.com If you do pick it up, pop by NAPA and get some of their fuel additive by Seafoam. At least with the older Toys, there's a drain plug on the tank! 17mm

Nice looking 'Runner. I've found transmissions as low as $100, but beware - many will have the same problem 'your' truck has. Check the input shaft for excess play and if ya use a junkyard, make sure they will swap it out if they give you a POS.
I wouldn't worry a bit about it sitting. Drain gas, fill w/Seafoam, etc added, replace cap & rotor and maybe drive it home! (chances are it won't stay in 5th gear)
I've never had any luck flipping cars, but I wish you the best! I'm sure you can get your money back though - so GO FOR IT! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> (keep us posted too)

I'd NEVER buy a car as an investment. The economy is in such poor shape, that it will make it hard to turn a profit.
Waaaay to many low-ballers out there.
Its more of a hassle to sell ANYTHING nowadays.
