Just swapped the head on my 1991 Rodeo. The distributor from the original head will not snug up all the way on the replacement head, there's about an 1/8 inch gap. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Phil

Just guessing here, taking some shots in the dark.
What is the replacement head? Where did it come from? What year?
As I recall there is an 'O' ring on the shaft. Did you give it plenty of lub so it could slip in? The final seating might be a bit of a push.
Could it be a problem with the gears not quite lining up? It seems unlikely if it's out only 1/8th inch.

Thanks for the post. The gears mesh, the dist turns free no binding at all. The old head was a #2 this one is a #1. I know, not the best choice. but it will do till I can do a 3.1/3.4 swap. I bought the head for cheap. It came with all the papers, had been rebuilt eleven years ago and sat on a shelf at a garage. I did replace the valve stem seals since it was built so long ago.
I had lightly lubed the O-ring with grease and this morning with spray lube. Now the gap is about 1/16". Maybe it's a slight casting difference between a #1 and #2.
For now I'm going with it.
Thanks,
Phil
