I've had this problem on and off for about a year. When the truck is cold and after I have waited 30-60 seconds for it to initially warm up. I will start driving and while its still cold it will get to 3000rpms and have no power in 1st. Shift into 2nd and its okay till the 2000rpm range. Then it catches and misses(bucking) until 3000rpm then it quits and runs more or less normally. Shift into 3rd and it is there maybe a little bit but nothing like in 2nd. The problem is temperature dependent. If its warm 80-90* it doesn't really do it. If its colder it will do it every time but maybe not if you have driven the truck before during the day. The last real clue I have is it quits once you've been driving for 2-5 minutes it quits and drives normally but maybe a little down on power. The only other thing I can think of and it may not be related is it seemed to start after I had a block heater installed last winter.

In the last 6 months I have changed plugs, cleaned the maf and put a new air filter in and none of those things drastically affected the problem. Sorry if the post isn't clear I'm just trying to get down everything that comes to mind that might help a diagnosis.

thanks for any suggestions

Edit Also the truck is not throwing any codes

Sounds like you need to hook up a diagnostics computer to yer truck. If you want to do it yerself, you can buy something like AutoTap, DashDyno,

Are you sure the bulb to the check engine light is still working?

Things that it could be...
TPS, Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor, Fuel Pump, fuel filter, thermostat are few that come to mind. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Are you sure you don't have an air leak from the ISR mod?

The check engine light came on earlier this year after I hit a bump and I pulled a 02 sensor slow to respond code. After I cleared the code everything was fine. I need to change my sig. I actually removed the ISR mod since it was killing my gas mileage. I looked at the vacuum lines the other day and they look okay. I'm going to to download the full service manual from tech info after I get paid and I'm going to start testing components.

The truck is a 5spd and I just filled it with fresh 75-80w and no leaks.

Do you have a bed topper? Could be the topper... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

And since when does it get up to 90* in North Dakota?

The block heater doesn't have anything to do with the miss; what was taken out of the way to install it might however. How's the coolant level maintaining?

The 22RE's were always prone to a little of this if the coolant was a tad low.

And TPS is always the root of all evil.

I don't think it's the topper. We hit 90's twice or three times but it was a cold summer though we did have consistent 80* weeks.

I'll check the coolant level. Though I haven't noticed any leaks and the oil has looked normal the last couple of changes. The block heater leed was maybe they hadn't gotten the system bled well enough so the coolant temp sensor was throwing an incorrect temp.

I had been kind of thinking towards tps but it goes away when warm.....

Also to throw another ringer in today/tonight it was in the 40's and wet and it didn't do it on the way to or from work. I didn't deviate from my normal routine so go figure on that one.

Check engine light should light up when you turn the key on...before you start the engine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'd still lean towards the engine coolant temperature sensor...this is the one the ECU uses...not the temp gauge sensor. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Where does yer temp gauge needle sit when the engine is warmed up? Is the thermostat working correctly? How long does it take fer the engine to come to operating temperature?

I forgot to look on the way home. Tomorrow morning I'll look for the check engine light.

That is the sensor I meant to refer to not just the gauge sensor.

Engine when warm sits in the middle or a bit to the left. On warm up its warmed up within 2-3 miles of driving about what its been since I bought it at 43k. There is no doubt it gets to temp. I've had it cook me out when its -20's. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I checked the cel it works for sure. Also something interesting I talked to my dad and he has a similar problem with his 98 4Runner limited 4wd auto. Originally his started out as a infrequent miss and bucking but it only happened on long trips. Toyota replaced plugs, wires, one coil pack, and the fuel filter. Though now it has morphed into a problem that is similar to mine. Anyways just something for thought.
