Oups....only $238 for a idler tensioner bolt??? #972311 11/16/09 10:08 PM

I snapped the bolt that adjusts the idler pulley on my 91 22re while trying to loosen the tension today...

I just got back from the dealer, but they only has the whole package with the pulley assembly for only $238 cad!!!

But I only need to replace the long adjuster bolt... If I happen to find a generic replacement long bolt (14mm?).....would it be ok?

Please let know if anyone knows where to find one. I'm in Toronto, Ontario.

Thanks
-chris

Do you have the other end of the bolt out? e.g. both halves? Obviously that will have to be removed anyway....

If you do, measure the length needed, then take the stud to your local HW store to match. Chances are pretty dern good the thread pitch will be 1.25. I can't remember, but if teh head is 14mm, that's an M10 bolt.
A local fastener store can find or (if needed) order one that is close enough to work. I don't think that being too long matters here...?

Here u go...

The bolt head needs a 14mm wrench. I guess it's a M10?

If I don't find any replacement I guess I could always double nuts the bolt...

Body Damage is Cool
Hard to find a bolt with that much thread on it at the hardware store. I must have at least one or two of those. I'll look if you want to wait. It might take me a day or two. Even with shipping to Canada and customs fees it should come to less than $238.00 CAD <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> -- Matt

Don't forget the hardware bin at NAPA either.

Or try your local P-N-P.

Double nut will work fine. Same thing happened to me, and I just used a nut and washer.

Need a Spot
I'm not sure how available metric redi-rod is, but if you could find a piece along with a nut and welder, you could make a bolt.

all right, it turns out it's a M8 x 1.25 thread for the adjuster bolt.

I couldn't find any bolt with the proper length in any stores near by....

So here's my solution: Two $0.15 nuts = $0.3 fix!!!
