Getting the Wheeling Fever
i posted about running an isuzu in the baja 1000 in trail talk and was sent hear. i know about the amigo that won in the late 90's and all of the rally raid wins around the world. the question that i have is were most of them diesel? i had always thought that diesel would be the way to go but i wasn't sure. the other thing is what platform to go with. i like the early 90's amigo but i dont know if it would do the trick. also what engine would you recommend. thanks

the cool thing about owning a rare car is that someone else thinks its cool too.

the 4jb1t would fit in the isuzu in your sig. they also put it in the frontera, which is the same as the rodeo, until at least the mid 90's. the newest diesel offering from isuzu seems to be the 4jx1 3.0td which has a number of issues that are solved through isuzu factory issued bulletins and maintenance. the 4jg2 was the engine that was in between these two models, being a 3.1 which seems to be generally more reliable than the 3.0. i would imagine any/all of these would fit in one of the associated isuzu vehicles from a similar time period. i would suggest asking more direct questions over at ITOK which is the isuzu owners club UK forum. they are much more knowledgeable with these engines as they actually have them. good luck!
