Getting the Wheeling Fever
After a lot of research and reading regarding the variables pertaining to Gen I Monty's - i.e. parts availability, etc. - I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to purchase a Gen II, and I'm seriously considering the SR model.

Any input or comments?

I like the 99's the best because they all have 3.5 Sohc, no body cladding, larger wheel wells and most had the rear locker. I have never seen a '99 without a locker i don't think they had too many if any other trim levels this year. 98's are good too but there was still a full line of monteros that year so you could still get flat fender models, blister fenders W/ out locker, and 24v 3.0's so you just have to look harder to find one with a 3.5 and locker. 00's didn't come with a locker at all.

Not sure about that 98 info Toasty. IIRC, 97 was Gen II with LS and SR, though both had the 3.5 SOHC. Then the Gen II.5s begin in 98, again all with the 3.5 SOHC.

Motero has a blister fender with a 3.0, and i've seen flat fender 98's with 3.0 and the clear headlights.

The more I look at them, the more I"m becoming partial to that Gen II look/styling.
