Brendan - I'm really not interested in that top-line model. Even with the lower priced one we'll probably never see any benefit from the dual core processor and will likely have some of the RAM idling forever. The main advantage I see with today's better computers is the faster front side bus, faster RAM and better video circuits. The lower priced model seems ok to me, fits the space better than the 23" model and provides a larger display than both the laptop now in use and the CRT TV adjacent to it. From an aesthetic view, it also looks more attractive - if that's possible with a PC or TV.
Charlie - No, I haven't considered a tablet because they seem to get in the way just as much as a laptop. With either a laptop or a tablet, the device follows the keyboard - which is placed near the front edge of the desk in use and must be moved rearward in order to use the desk. As a result, ours is never moved. Also, the clutter behind the laptop (charger, mouse receiver, cords, etc) is exposed when the laptop is closed. Maybe it's just my logic, but I like the idea of the display at the very back of the desk with a moveable keyboard that can be stored under the display and a cordless mouse and keyboard that have the RF devices contained inside the display panel. The display panel can also be wall mounted, if desired - in which case the keyboard and mouse could be stored in the desk drawer.
This model also has touch-screen, but I can't imagine I would use it.

A benefit of the touch screen is you can just reach over and change a page or open something without getting the mouse or keyboard in hand. I gave up on the wireless mouse. We have cats, that thing travels to far. The wired mouse stays near the desk.

I have one of those exact machines in my living-room right now. Cleaning off some viruses for a lady at work
It's got a very nice picture and good performance running Vista. It's not really any thicker than a flat panel TV, and the wireless keyboard and mouse work pretty slick.
Since it's not mine, I can't really speak to battery life in the keyboard/mouse or anything like that, but overall it seems like a very solid PC. Based on past experience with HPs at work, I wouldn't have an issue getting one of these to replace the TV in my bedroom if I could afford it!

Thanks, Chris. I guess that seals the deal for me since you've seen one up and running first hand. This one has Win7 as a clean install, so that might even be better than the Vista models..... I think there are some more upgrades from the older models as well.

There's a world of difference between the home user versions of HP machines and their business class stuff...at least in my experience. Hope you get a good one Frank.
