To all, I was looking for some parts for my T100 on the Toyota DIY site and came upon this: 6 December, 2009 The diagrams are no longer available on this site. For reasons that are beyond our comprehension, Toyota Motor Sales Inc. kept harrassing our ISP about them. It seems that they are really interested in quick profits from new car sales, so it is in their best interest that old cars fall apart asap. The progress of course cannot be stopped, and the diagrams are available on numerous other websites around the world, so we feel this change will not have a significant negative impact on Toyota DIY-ers. For example google something like 78-01 ACCELERATOR LINK 78111C, and you shall find it. Contact us if you need help or have any other question about this change. At ToyoDIY, we strongly believe in our right to repair our own vehicles. You can help by raising awareness of the issue. Details can be found at www.righttorepair.org. I would like to think that there are other sites out there for other manufacturers also, but this one was a really good reference site and I could always check with my dealer as to the availability and if it was the correct part #. It also had good parts breakdown drawings, which those have been removed, but the list and part numbers are there, just no drawings or breakdowns. I also had an idea of the cost going in to my local stealership. I hope gubmint isn't a part of this or is it the car manufacturer's themselves?

I think Honda and Toyota IIRC used to send guys to junk yards to pull any decent parts.
Just something I read years ago...I don't really know if there is any truth to it.

While you think it sucks hard, the reality is this is real...
Most manufactures will "obsolete" parts on vehicles 10 years or older.
One dealer with older vehicle parts has faced a double whammy. His "stock" was lost in one of the SoCal wildfires.
And, his backup sources have been bone yards that are selling off content for scrap metal at top dollar.
It is not unusual for small bone yards to sell out to scrap for a 7 figure amount.

Not exactly sure how far back Toyota dealers go, but most parts are still available for my 88. Thats a 22 year old vehicle.

Dealers have a tendency to obsolete parts at a 10 year point.
However, there are many aftermarket providers that will support vehicles older than 10 years depending on popularity of model.
Popularity of model can be translated into can someone make a profit from stock piling parts for a specific model or model years.
Typically, bone yards were a storage repository for long term access to parts for a variety of models.
As bone yards are being cleared out, the availability of parts becomes restricted.
While I do not track all 4x4 model part availability sites, I will offer that 4x4Wire will act as a repository for information provided that may help others.
And, my offer is not with a desire for 4x4Wire to be the ONLY site. I am from the old-school economic model. I do not want to put all of my eggs in one basket.

I hope gubmint isn't a part of this or is it the car manufacturer's themselves? In this case with Toyo DIY, I'm sure it was a copyright infringement deal. Toyota is VERY tight with anything that has their name on it. Thats why you dont see anything in stores like hats, license plate frames, mud flaps, with the Toyota logo, because they wont sell the licensing rights to it, at least not for cheap. I really dont think it has anything to do with Toyota not wanting their customers to work on their older cars, but rather Toyota wants to keep their copyrighted property safe.
