Need some help. My sons Monty will not go into "Overdrive".
We checked the fluid level and quality, the are good.
I also checked and adjusted the TV cable. This changed the shift points but did not cause it to go into OD.
This problem happened all of the sudden.
Any ideas?

There is a 1-wire temperature activated switch on the front of the thermostat housing that does not allow O/D operation until the engine is at operating temperature. Remove the connector and ground it. An easy way to do it is to stuff a piece of small wire up inside the connector, reinstall it and ground the other end of the piece of wire. If the O/D now works, replace the thermo switch.

If that doesn't work, the issue is probably with the O/D OFF relay, but odds are it's the thermo switch.

I'm glad someone asked this question as my overdrive has been acting fishy since I put my rig back together. THANKS!

The sending unit was the problem. Until I can get a new temp switch, I just ran a wire from the connector for the switch to a ground. Works fine. Thanks.

I should say thanks, too, Frank. I unplugged the connector, scraped some of the green $hit off the connector, plugged it back in, and it works fine. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Does this remedy work for a 1988 Raider with a 4 Cyl 2.6 L engine?
If so, can you help me locate the correct sensor wire to ground?

Thanks

I'm not at all familiar with the 2.6L engine, but others here should know.

It's near the thermostat, follow the top radiator hose where it connects. This is only a temp fix, you want your sensor to work or your fuel consumption and other things will go whacky. It's a cheap sensor maybe $25.
