Getting the Wheeling Fever
I haven't been on in a while and I tried to search. the new way topics are displayed is quite frustrating. I need to know what the best gear oil is and what is the capacity of my gear box and transfer case. I have a 1988 montero swb 5 speed. any help will be greatly appreciated. I know some people say search for hours its easy but if you have any info I would appreciate your time thanks

Lubricant Capacities Table for 4-cyl model:

Engine Oil 5.3 quarts
Cooling System 8.45 quarts
Manual Transmission 4.7 pints
Automatic Transmission 15.2 pints
Transfer case 4.7 pints
Front Axle 2.3 pints
Rear Axle with no LSD 2.3 pints
Rear Axle with LSD 3.8 pints
Power Steering 1.9 pints
Fuel Tank 15.9 gallons

I filled with Valvoline the past oil change sequence for the gear boxes and axles. I use Castrol for the engine. Gas is what-is-near.

Cheers,
Russell

I would assume the open axle doesn't require the care in oiling the LSD does. Same type of note was in my 1968 Buick manual.
