Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hello all, i have noticed scarcely any Gen 1 monteros for sale over the last year or so. I check autotrader and ebay periodically and have seen very few. I have a gen 2 and an old Discovery and was thinking about getting a Gen 1. Anyone seen any for sale?

In my driveway... ![[Linked Image]](http://frumious.smugmug.com/Cars/Blue-Monty-Restored/3-Monteros/742368582_pUpch-M.jpg) There are still a number of them up here. Cash for Clunkers did not get them all. If you go to Craigslist Alaska and search "Montero" in the Cars and Trucks section you will find a few Gen1s each week. ....Not that it will do you much good, unless you are coming to Alaska one way.

I'd consider selling mine. I'd have to get $1000 for it though due to the brand new tires. Body, frame, interior, exterior, and tranny are all in very good condition. Motor is blown. Most likely warped heads.

Nobody but us fanatics dump money into 20 year old trucks with no resale value. True. But I remind myself that the Gen1s are fully depreciated. A new SUV would depreciate 3 - 4,000 per year.

Seeing your pic makes me want one even more! Im 35 and as a kid on the coast of NC i was into surfing and I became obsessed with troopers and monteros and always wanted a Gen 1! Back in 01 after grad school i bought my 95 Gen 2 and still have it. I always like old discoveries also so i got a 98 Disco a couple of years ago, but id say the monty is more reliable and less expensive to maintain. I dont think my obsession will reach full circle until i get a Gen 1, it just has to happen at some point! I think im willing to take the gamble of getting a 20 year old truck for a grand or 2! Nice trucks by the way!

I cant stand any newer trucks. I think the Gen 2 discovery which dies after 2004 was maybe the last fairly cool looking truck, they are all space ship-minivans now!
