If on the other hand it is actually a Check Engine light then there should be a code being stored in your ECU. Here's how to read the code... First you'll need to access the Diagnostic connector behind your glove box. Next you'll need a non-digital multimeter to read the codes... Here are the procedures to do that. Oh and if it's not clear, you'll need an analog multimeter (not a digital one) to do the check.
