That is weird, definately something that should be checked out, my 89 v6 SWB is fairly peppy and with a couple inches lift and 31" mudders I don't really feel comfortable taking it past 75 ish but it has no problem getting there and I'm positive I could get it up to 100+ on the flats. Might be time for a good old tune up.. you could check fuel filter, plugs, cap & rotor, wires, maybe run some seafoam through the fuel. If you find something out, let us know.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
A followup here. Cat was fine, you can shine a light from one end to the other on a new one. Cut out carpet around accel pedal (not an issue). Refurbished K&N airfilter. Checked intake valve, worked fine. Followed air filter body away from engine and noticed it ended as smaller plastic hose/fitting that exited the engine compartment. Pulled off the last plastic fitting that extends from the air filter housing. Truck ran noticeably faster (up to 70 mph now). Next is cleaning the intake plenum and fuel rail when I get the valve cover gaskets replaced. One step at a time...

Also, if you have a brake that is sticking it will definitely slow you down.

Actually - what about the wheel bearings? Not just the possibility of bad bearings, but what if they were not reinstalled correctly with the proper torque procedure?

Not sure where you had your brakes done last, but I dont think every brake shop has one of our special lock nut sockets. It's often more likely that these are under-torqued without the proper socket. but if someone torqued it and forgot to back it off per the FSM, this could lead to increased friction load. And also premature bearing failure I'm sure.

I think either you're lacking power (compression, fuel, spark or air delivery issue), or you have the power and something is acting against the motor - be it the exhaust/CAT issue you chased already, or excessive drag on the drivetrain.

You're sure you're not stuck in 4wd?

Jim

i noticed better cruiseing and MPG with new wheel bearings, i put them in like i did my f150s, put them in hand tighten the nut spin tire tightn nut agian spin tire tighten till you feel resistance when you spin tire that way you know there in place, then start backing out the nut spin tire also grab top and bottom of tire and wiggle checking for bearing play once you find that happy spin not wobble are lock in place.

There is a specific sequence in the FSM similar to what you describe for the wheels. Basically tighten hard, loosen, tighten soft, back off quarter turn.

Body Damage is Cool
My old 3 liter would hit 95mph easily and still have more pedal. This newer one would go faster, I'm sure. I've only one good testicle remaining and don't intend on losing it via road carnage.

Are you sure your vehicle is going into overdrive? Silly sounding question, but I had to ask. Maybe something to do with your TPS adjustment/kickdown cable adjustment concerning shifting.

I also wonder if your fast idle air valve (lower part of the throttle body with pipes) is leaking coolant into your throttle body and on into your cylinders. I've been down that road and it looked alot like head gaskets blown by the way the exhaust looked...and smelled.

You obviously have a third testicle somewhere...or an angel on your shoulder...or perhaps an angel holding said extra testicle on your shoulder.

107 on a set of flabby 35's? I'd require whisky and a blindfold.

I like that! I do have a motorcycle bell that says never ride faster then your angel can fly and a I have a guardian angel tattoo on my shoulder but i'm still looking for that 3rd testical.

all i cna say was lots of wind noise and lots of engine rpm's but really it was a streight shot ( obviously) and she drove it pretty well, (dont recommend changing lanes though) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I've had mine up to a GPS indicated 98mph in it's current setup. It was relatively drama-free. I can second the no-lane-change remark, however...
