Arrghh, I was bouncing down my extended driveway this morning listening to some music, and did not hear the hole in my rad hose making noise till the rig was hot. The guage did not yet read into the red when I shut it down. I parked it for an hour or so and came back with a hose and installed it, water, started it up, and it ran rough at idle. Smooths out at higher rpm, but still wants to miss at idle. Also... I think I saw a few bubbles in the oil that should not be there. I cooked my head gasket didn?t I ?
Seems I remember reading that some of these motors have some sort of issue with either the head gasket or the head it?self... tell me my head is not cracked... please. I swear it was not even that hot! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

it could be head gasket or cracked head, no real way of knowing until the head comes off. But your right, these engines aren't very forgiving when it comes to overheating them. after changing my timing belt/water pump etc... a few years ago I did pretty much the same thing. after the job was done and I bled what I thought was all the air out of the coolant, I took off with the tunes pumping and 5 minutes later looked at my gauge and was touching the red. I got lucky though!
sorry about your luck!

sorry about your luck! I'm looking at doing my timing belt this spring. How do you get the air out of the coolant? Run it with the rad cap off?. ?? Thanks John

yes thats all you do...let it come up to operating temperature and the thermostat opens...then let it run for another 15-20 until you have to stop adding coolant.
