Getting the Wheeling Fever
When I'm driving on the highway or through town and push the brake lightly the lights don't come on but when I have to push it a little harder then both the Brake and ABS lights come on. I haven't noticed any differences in how well it stops and the fluid level is fine, no leaks. There are also no CEL codes, checked it with my reader. Any ideas what the problem is?

A basic scanner won't track ABS. I believe a professional scanner can do this. You may have a faulty brake pressure switch, or faulty ABS module. a ABS capable scanner should tell you exactly what the part is throwing the light on. Not too fluent with ABS systems so that's about as far as I go here. good luck. may want to google/wiki what components make up a generic ABS system. I doubt it's your wheel speed sensors because you describe it only happening under harder braking. A wheel speed sensor would trip the light under all moving conditions regardless of braking intensity unless your driving on ice or something. anyway. good luck

A mechanic told me that this is normal if you have engaged the abs system when you are braking. I haven't noticed any other problems with braking.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry, but that is totally incorrect. The lights should NOT come on under normal to moderate braking with no pulsating indicating that the ABS has detected wheel lock.

Many different items can cause this condition. Bad master cylinder, bad proportion valve, trouble with the ABS system itself. It would be best to have the brake system checked by a brake specialist.
