Question...

Since I have to redo my rear (current 4.30 w/lockright) as I think I stripped the teeth (will know soon, replacement diff on way).

I'm thinking of putting a spool in the diff thats on the way. (Strictly off-road)
Well I found a couple on ebay for $70 - DuraSolid - Are these any good?? Has any had any issues??...

From their website

DURA SOLID 10 BOLTS ULTRA LIGHT WEIGHT STEEL SPOOL FOR TOYOTA TRUCK WITH 30 SPLINES

BEARING JOURNAL SIZE -- 1.785"

BEARING SHOULDER TO SHOULDER LENGTH -- 4.645"

TOTAL LENGTH -- 6.14"

NO OF HOLES -- 10 (DIA 0.45")

MANUFACTURED OUT OF 4140 ALLOY STEEL AND HEAT TREATED FOR GREAT STRENGTH

Marlin and AllPro are 189 ea...

Sure all animals are not the same... but its a spool not a locker and I've seen welds hold on spiders for years....

Just thoughts u know...

Also - Lockright will eventually go to front axle.
All in all - its a 22r pushing 33" LTB's

TIA

Wheel on!

Have access to a welder?
You could always "Lincoln Lock" it for even less

if you're only running 4.30s, a whole junkyard third is about the same as those spools.
sorry, no real useful input otehrwise, I've never messed w/ a spool.

With 200+ Billion electrical parts, the world most complicated machine is inside your own skull.

Question Reality.

Body Damage is Cool
That spool will most likely be fine, as long as you don't throw a ton of horsepower or torque through your driveline.

I have thought about welding the spiders.... especially since I dont drive it often on the street (so there's always a trailer to get her home)

If you find yourself in junkyard and you see a 'bunch' why note HOOK a fellow wheeler up ... I eventually found one, in NY... Well none close that they didnt think was gold...

Main concern was not wanting to have to redo again ... And if the DuraSolid material was strong enough...

Now on a chance my diff(gears) could still be ok, and its my locker that got junked .... and if thats the case - maybe the spool is my better option for that case....
Man I cant wait for it to WARM up so I can crawl around under her.....
