New clutch and front drive shafts...what else to check? #986129 02/18/10 05:32 AM

I am going to have a new clutch put in my 92 V6 3.0L as well as new complete L and R driveshafts. My clutch has been slipping for the past 3000 kms!, and the CV's click in all directions when in 4WD....and have been for a year now.

I'm wondering if there is anything else that should be checked out when this job is done? Are there any particular seals or hard to reach parts that will become accessible during this proceedure? The motor has about 100 000 miles on it. I have been quoted a price of $1400 CAN to do the job, does this seem reasonable? The clutch alone was going to be $1000, and since it will be out, they said an additional $400 for the drive shafts.

if the clutch is replaced I would have the following replaced as well.

freeze plugs on the back part of the engine
thrust bearing
spigot bearing
overhaul clutch cylinder

if you are doing the sideshafts then do the balljoints at the same time.
