For me, that's a first since the advent of the Internet. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

If EB's in for the weekend, he might chime in; he's had a lot of beatup 22R cores roll in.

How about some history on that engine?

I've seen cams break in a handful of engines at work. No Toyotas though. We usually just replace them and keep on running the motor with no problems.

I recommend http://www.engnbldr.com/

Their RV cam is nice, but I've wondered about their Crawler cam.

This could be the perfect time to upgrade as long as you don't install some wild A** cam in.

It actually happened to an old member here (no longer posts) named dieselshop. I saw the cam myself.

He was just driving to work in the morning and heard a pop. Engine running on two cylinders. He turned it around and drove home.

Lucky for him we had just finished rebuilding a junkyard 22RE to throw inside after he saw my rod bearing let go.

The only time a saw a cam brake in a toyota was from not changing the oil. It was a lexus and the lady never changed the oil ever. The car had 90k on it. After taking the valve cover off it was so full of sludge. Then she brings our loaner car back with a dog terd on the leather back seat. Dirty B***h.

>>>*I have seen perhaps a dozen cases all told, without fail we find a badly warped head. In operation the cam flexes, a bit like bending a beer can back and forth.

In that situation, she will break. A casting flaw is always a possible, but normally the evidence of the cause is obvious.

I saw one actually worn in half once, the oil galley plugged and tore up the rockers and cam lobes and the owner drove her until she stopped. That one snapped when the arm was actually cutting into the base circle.

*Most engines would have died and gone to China for melting down into flapjack turners, on just two cylinder the guy kept right on going. I remember I asked him how long it had run that way, he answered "Huh?"....*LOL**

If the cam line checks out straight, pull the head and fix the bent valves and go back to driving. If bent, the cam line will need to be remachined or the head replaced....*EB

*Beats the he** outa me!....*LOL**...
