Question on nylock nuts & Addco bushing bracket Jalaber style #92347 09/21/02 05:40 AM

Well yesterday I installed my front Addco anti-sway bar. The rear one is still on backorder. That thing really smooths out the handling of the 4Runner. Cornering, U-turns, and lane changing feel sooo much better now!

I even used the endlinks provided by Addco although they're sending me a new updated endlink set with stronger L brackets with gussets.

My situation is: For each bolt holding the bushing brackets to the frame I'm using 2 nylock nuts - the 1st one torqued to 25 ft lbs (per Jalaber) and the 2nd one tightened onto the 1st one to keep it in place. I had no problems with three out of four bolts. But on one of the bolts while tightening the 1st nylock nut it never became tight. It did tighten enough to hold the bushing bracket onto the frame and squeeze the lock washer that I'm using but at that point it just turned and turned never getting tighter. So I went ahead & put the 2nd nylock nut on top of this and torqued it to 25 ft lb.

Question is: Now I can't even remove that 1st nylock nut because it just turns and does not come off yet it does not get tighter either. Am I going to have to cut that thing off and start over? The 2 bushing brackets are solidly held in place and I have detected no shifting but I'm worried about that one bolt/nut combination.

Picture of Jalabers setup.

Any suggestions? Thanks

You are holding the bolt head up inside the bracket with a wrench while using a socket on the nylock nut right? Otherwise I dont know why it wont back out ...looks like you will have to cut the nut off. Dremmel tool with cutoff wheel should work fine.

Good Luck.

Thanks for chiming in Jalaber. Yeah, I'm holding the upper bolt with a wrench. I can't figure it out. It did get slightly tight to a certain point then that't it- turn, turn, turn. Thing is, I don't want to drive too hard yet because of that one bolt. I'll try some more tonight then if nothing happens I'll cut it off.

Thanks though.

R.
