Getting the Wheeling Fever
Does my 85Monty 2.6 m/t have an ecu? Doesn't, right? Were the FI models the only models with an ecu? Does anyone know where the black wire (not the white tach or blue ignitor wire) on the coil negative side comes from? Also, what is the small black transistor like square (mounted under the coil bracket screw) with a blue wire to coil positive and it has a black wire with connector that plugs into something. This monty has a weber carb now.

Thanks, J

Actually, I was corrected on this a few weeks back. Some (I'm not sure which if not all) of the the 2.6's definitely had ecu's. They were basic in function when compared to the fuel injected 3.0 v6 ecu but they are ecu's non the less.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in with more detail here. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

The haynes manual and the 1984 monty fsm don't make mention of one. And with those other two things I mentioned above makes me wonder. (I edited my post while you were responding :P)

If it came factory equipped with a catalytic converter, then it has a computer.

I would go with yes, it has one.

My 85 d50 had one for the 2.6 computer carb. The little black square thing is some kind of radio interference gizmo, IIRC...

under dash, passenger side, under glove box, IIRC. Been a lot of years. I think I modded the box to put the starion ecu in it. Look for a cover over it, 10mm bolts holding it on. Should be about 7-8" squarish.

Per my 84 monty fsm, it's in the same place...
