so excited! so a lil back story is necessary, i am sure. i put on about 6k miles this spring, towing a trailer out to the PNW and down to AZ and back to NC and on the return leg, my turbo lost a seal and was spraying some serious oil. i made it home ok, and i managed to find a used turbo online, in the UK. i ordered it, and to my dismay, it took about a month to arrive! but imagine how i felt when i opened the poorly packaged item, and it was totally damaged from shipping, was missing the manifold, and wasnt even the right turbo! drat. so one month down, i ordered yet another used turbo from the UK, and crossed my fingers. it arrived in spectacular time, and was packaged very securely, and has been recently rebuilt, even! it isnt the newer style turbo that i wanted, but it is an adequate replacement to get me back on the road.

new next to old. im going out to finish replacing it after i finish removing the butterfly valve in the exhaust pipe, and associated hardware, and clean all the oil off the old surfaces so i can put on the new gaskets.

Glad it worked out.

Is there a reason you bought a used unit instead of getting the old one rebuilt in the states? Was it just cost-prohibitive?

hey thanks, me too! it seemed to be more expensive to have it rebuilt here, than buy another used one. rebuilds start at $250, not including shipping or any new parts, just gaskets. i bought a used one, that had been rebuilt within a few hundred miles, for a little less than that, from someone who had it rebuilt by midland turbo in the uk, then the engine needed rebuilding so they parted it out. a new one is upwards of $900 from IHI, around $750-800 online.
