I need your opinions/experiences with welding the front diff on a Gen I swb. It's only trail driven and never sees pavement and I've already welded the rear. How difficult does it become to turn on the trails? Can the stock steering handle it? I don't wanna put a locker in cause I'm tryin to save money. Should I weld it?

I'd get some lockout hubs or maybe even get some drive flanges machined for it

I want some lockout hubs, but I can't find any. anyone wanna sell some?
Don't Gen IIs have full time locked hubs (ie drive flanges)? Will these fit on a Gen I? If so, anyone wanna sell some?
I will try and remember to take pics when I do it.

I will try and remember to take pics when I do it. Gen II's do have flanges, and the same hubs fit genI and genII, so they 'should' fit. i would think hubs would be better though, so you can unlock one for tighter turns.

I'm pretty lazy so I'm unlikely to get out and unlock a hub to make a tight turn and get out and lock it back in, though I would like the option. Has anybody put Gen II flanges on a Gen I?

If you don't want to get in and out, then don't weld your front end. The Gen 2 flanges make it so that you have manual hubs that are always locked in, and you can never unlock. Bad idea.

I'm still going to weld my front. I'll just have to use my superior driving skill instead of getting out to unlock/lock hubs <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I still need manual hubs and I still want the flanges as a spare.
