Body Damage is Cool
What is the MAXIMUM amount of lift is legal without engineering?

I am looking at making some lifts that are geared towards your market.

If possible, is it the same all over or does each region have its own laws?

Want to make it hassle free for a customer and myself.

Thanks for any/all helpful information.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
NSW Rules (from the RoadTrafficAuthority)

Suspension
Besides assuring a comfortable ride, a vehicleÆs suspension system controls wheel movement for handling and road
holding. Manufacturers conduct extensive test programs to develop suitable suspension settings. Adjustments, such
as lowering the vehicle, can upset the suspension characteristics and cause unpredictable handling. Generally, roll
stabilizer bars, axle locating rods, upgraded shock absorbers or upgraded springs may be used provided they are
suitable for the vehicle and are properly fitted. However, the following suspension modifications are not acceptable:
&#56256;&#56452; Welding forged components such as stub axles or control arms.
&#56256;&#56452; Fitting longer, non-standard shackles to leaf springs.
&#56256;&#56452; Fitting any additional components or altering the suspension so that the wheels or tyres may contact any
component under the full range of suspension and steering travel.
&#56256;&#56452; Fitting any additional components or altering the suspension ride height so that any part of the vehicle other
than a wheel or tyre can contact the road in the event of a tyre deflation.
If major changes to the suspension (such as substitution of a non standard front cross member) are carried out, they
should be done under the strict guidance of an engineering signatory.

I had wriiten this great response but the system timed out and I wasn't able to post i...PITA <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />. the above is the watered down version of the rules... as you can see no mention on the height restriction... from what I have been told at the suspension shop and reading the general rules, as long as you adhere to the above and it's 'safe' you can go as high as you like... but you might not be able to legally add the Tyres to match as those have restrictions. All of this info can be found at http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi_dl1.html

So basically you can have this great suspension (legally) and these tiny tyres (the legal limit) to match if you go too high.

Maybe DAMKIA can add/expand on the above and for the other major states as he seems to be the guru on this.

Hope that helps. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have done some research and found the following reags for each state:

Australian Capital Territory (ACT),Northern Territory (NT), and Western Australia (WA) all refer to the National Standards

Queensland has a brief description, but mainly refers to National code

Victoria describes their own.

Whilst I could not find any documents for South Australia (SA) or Tasmania, so they would most likely using the National standards.

Hope it helps.

Alan
