Getting the Wheeling Fever
Does anyone know of a good way to change the heater hoses on a 2.6L gen1 montero. It seams like there is a collector behind the engine on the drivers side. I cant see it very well I have a burst hose somewhere i can see it but i see liquid. thanks guys

When i did my body lift one of the hoses busted, i used a combination of a small screwdriver and a small ratchet. It's easier to access the hoses when you remove the carburetor housing and patience. I got the hoses from autozone and took them what i had for them to match.

Wash your hands in very hot water to shrink them and toughen the skin. This will let you get your hands in there far enough to cut them really good, and the toughened skin on your shrunk hands will tear really impressively. I know some really good curses to put on the guy who used the screw clamp and put the thing on so you can't get at the screw head, too, and some more for the one who used the spring clamps that you can't get pliers on to squeeze them open...

When I replaced the heater hoses on my Raider, I required stitches; I was hung up on one of those springy hose clamps and ripped my glove. The hose that connects on the rear of the carb shredded my arm, some scarring still.

I suggest pulling the engine as an easier and safer alternative.

Also, if you have a Mikuni carb, don't neglect to check/replace the small coolant line that runs to its base.

The hose that fails most often is the one on top of the intake, that one is not a horror to work on.
If you need to change the one from the bottom of the intake to the tube around the back of the engine or the heater returnI would suggest disconnecting a battery cable. You will be working right above the starter and if you get a tool into the battery cable you will be even less happy that when you started.

And Eddy, That was funny

the one on the top of the mani sees the most heat. Mine always blew in the first curve. And I've done my share of battery tool welding....
