i'm in the middle of fixing mine (i have a 95 SR). the glass is out which provides a good view of the mechanism. i could take a few pics for you -- just let me know what you're looking for.

ya I had the glass out of mine and really didnt know what I was looking at. in the channel running to the back does it have cable pulling it back? mine only has cable in the front side. mine only opens 4 to 6" and stuck. so I dont know if the cable is broke or if its another problem. what would make it stop from going any farther than the 4to6"? what I might have to do is drop the whole unit and take apart and see.

many thanks

no, there's no cable behind the bracket in that channel. could there be something hidden in the side groves (i tried looking and poking with a screw driver, but couldn't see/feel anything)? i guess you'd need to take the back brackets out to find out (should be fairly simple as only two screws hold it on each side).

I wounder where it goes????? if ya look at it it has the copper tube that run from front to back. I thought the push and pulled.... nothing in the channels I sent alot of time looking too. wounder if at the motor where it feeds the wire is getting kinked and stopping it.

no not the drain tube. it is the cable that opens the glas. if you look at the rear set of runners. it has cables hooked to them. they follow the outside channel all the way front wards. and at the end the cable goes into a copper tube and runs to the motor then past and turns to go to the rear. copper tubes look to be as long as the track on the opposite side.

The copper tubes are the guides for the drive cable. They route the cables from the sides to the motor, and past the motor as storage for the length of the cable when the glass is closed. I think you have a motor/switch problem. The motor assy. has cams and switches that halt the travel in set places. The sunroof only opens about 7"+ when you first hit the switch. You have to release and hit the switch again to get it to travel further, and IIRC, there's one more stop before you get to full open. Closing cycle follows the same pattern. I'd fully close the glass, remove the motor assy, and check that all the switches work as they should and that the electic checks in the 92-95 manual are OK. Then I'd check for obstructions in the track.

ok. it only opens to the first stop then. so it might be some cams or the motor? even if you do it by hand it only goes the first 7". so check by the motor for cable, cam problems?

Drain tubes?

Speaking of drain tubes, how many drain tubes does a Gen I Lwb sunroof have? Mine has been dripping so I cleaned the front two tubes the other day. I had to hand crank it open (very stiff) and was afraid of breaking something so I didnt open it enough to see if there were more, but there must be a couple more towards the rear? Oh well, if there are more they must be working cuz no more drips <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
The glass can be removed fairly easily, but removal of the entire assembly will need the headliner removed. I removed the glass, treated the rust on the seal lip and replaced the seal several years ago. The design of the seal lip traps water and rusts. The seal is not meant to seal all the water out but reduce it so it will drain out the front and rear drains. One of my drains was blocked last year by a mud wasp nest that caused the roof to leak. The motor has a clutch that can be adjusted but I find the motor under powered and works best with engine on. I rarely use mine as it doesn't take much for dirt to create friction that slows/stops the motor. There's a switch assembly in the motor housing that stops the glass at open/close points. The motor assembly can be removed on it's own but there is a procedure to make sure you don't mess with the timing on re-install. Overall the sunroof is a pain, but the truck came this way so I had no choice.
