so the other day my wife took the dog to the beach in the montero. she comes home and asked me if it has been hard to shift, especially into reverse or first; i said no because it hasn't at all. in fact i was just thinking the other day how smooth the thing is for being so old. so it's been sitting for a couple days and i get in it early this morning. while it is idling up to temp, i go through all of the gears (stationary) and sure enough, it was very hard, almost like a worn clutch. as soon as it warmed up, it was fine, which is kinda of odd. reverse is still thumpy on the engagement for some reason, but it shifts fine. if i press the pedal down to the floor and let up while in gear, it'll catch once it is like...1/8" off the floor, haha.
i checked the pedal play - it seems ok - clevis play is there, and there seems to be some add'l sponge play so i'm just going to bleed it today and see if that helps the entire situation. it might need a new clutch finally. who knows.
anyway, after driving home from my game this morning, the thing loses a wheel weight on the highway, front right. BANG..."what was that?" THUMP SHAKE THUMP..."oh...." <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
so i get out after arriving home and check the wheel. i'm looking at the rotor and decide to check the outer pad while i'm down there. yeah, it's practically worn out. so when i take the wheel off to rebalance it i'll go through the pads as well.
oh well!
