Getting the Wheeling Fever
anyone know the stock gearing in a 86' 4runner. I'm running 32 bfg's with stock gears and I want to upgrade but am at a loss so far. Any advice?

Body Damage is Cool
I believe 4.10 and 4.30 were the only ratios available that year. 4.10 with manual trans and 4.30 with auto. I was happy running 4.30 gears (as an upgrade from 4.10) with 31" tires on a mostly street driven '84 xtra cab with a 22RE 4cyl. -- Matt

Roll Me Over
If you have a 5-spd I would go w/4.88's. They are a little taller than you need for 32's, but 4.56's will be a little short for the 32's. My '90 X-cab came stock w/5-spd/4.56's and 31's, w/the 3.0 there wasn't much noticeable loss w/32's, but my mpg's did suffer a little. Given the weight of the 1st gen Runner and the less power of the 22r(e), I think the 4.88's would be a good fit. The 4.88's will also allow you to run 33's(correct tire for 4.88's and a 5-spd), if you decide you need a little bigger tire in the future.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

What I suggest also is http://www.engnbldr.com/ .

RV head, RV Cam and I chose Doug Thourly headers.

And of course a 2 1/4' exhaust.

You might consider the exhaust first, it is very restrictive.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the info. think i'll go with the 4.56's planning to pull them out of a v6 runner, added a pacesetter header and getting a new cat. neext week pullin the eng. and tranny not going exteme however giving a much needed rebuild.
